The COVID-19 pandemic brought the world to a stand-still. In Ontario, this resulted in numerous lock downs and restrictive measures that heavily impacted businesses. The pandemic’s lasting effect is still being felt by businesses, especially when it comes to recruiting and retaining employees. The OCC (Ontario Chambers of Commerce) and the Discover Ability Network believe that one answer to this widespread issue is through utilizing an untapped talent pool of people who self-identify with a disability (PwD).

January 25, 2022 – HAMILTON, ON: The Hamilton Chamber of Commerce together with Mohawk College have launched an initiative under an Ontario Labour Market Partnership (OLMP) to support local small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs) with workforce development and retention strategies.
The project aims to generate a workforce development and onboarding strategy along with a community asset map scanning the Hamilton SME landscape, their needs, existing resources, and gaps in resources to support SMEs and job seekers alike in a COVID-19 recovery context.

January 19, 2022 – HAMILTON, ON: The Hamilton Chamber of Commerce’s Board Chair, Louis Grilli, has accepted the resignation of President and CEO, Keanin Loomis, which will be effective March 4, 2022.
“Keanin has led the complete transformation of our 176-year old institution,” said Louis Grilli, Hamilton Chamber Board Chair. “When he started in 2013, the Board tasked him with reestablishing the Chamber into a relevant, modern pillar institution in our community – I would say he’s done that and then some.

October 20, 2021 – HAMILTON, ON: On Saturday, November 20, 2021, the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce is bringing back Hamilton Day. The organization first held the event in 1931 during the depths of the Great Depression to boost spirits and the local economy. While it was only one day in an economic downturn that carried on for years, Hamilton Day was symbolic of a rallying spirit in the face of adversity.

The Hamilton Chamber of Commerce submitted our 2021 Federal Election Priorities to candidates across Hamilton’s five federal electoral ridings.
As Hamilton’s oldest institution at 176 years old, we have the privilege of speaking for our 1,000+ members that employ over 75,000 people in our community. On behalf of our membership, the Chamber presented a suite of policy recommendations to further support and strengthen our local economy for candidates’ consideration.

AUGUST 11, 2021 – HAMILTON, ON: At a virtual launch event on Wednesday, August 11, the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce released “Women out of Work: Assessing Hamilton’s Employment Disparities During COVID-19”. This report heard from nearly 1,600 self-identified women over the course of 2020-2021 and highlights the local impact of COVID-19 on women’s careers and livelihood.

JUNE 9, 2021 – HAMILTON: The Hamilton Chamber of Commerce is pleased to provide small- and medium-sized businesses in Hamilton with COVID-19 Antigen Rapid Testing Kits for their workplace. This benefit for businesses is made possible through the COVID-19 Rapid Screening Initiative – an initiative with the Ontario Chamber Network.
The rapid testing kits are free and are available for SMEs with fewer than 150 employees.
