The recognition award, presented to Hamilton Sports Group, celebrates the incredible impact the six-day event had on our community, generating nearly $75 million in economic activity.
The Hamilton Chamber of Commerce’s Outstanding Business Achievement Awards are set for Wednesday, April 10 at Carmen’s Banquet Centre at 5 p.m. Limited tickets remain.
The Hamilton Chamber of Commerce announced today that there will be a special recognition component added to this year’s Outstanding Business Achievement Awards program.
The Tourism Champion of the Year Recognition Award, in partnership with Hamilton Tourism, will be presented to Hamilton Sports Group for their integral role in planning and operating the 110th Grey Cup Game & 2023 Grey Cup Festival in Hamilton from November 14-21, 2023.
The Grey Cup Game & Festival generated over $73.5 million in total economic activity in Canada, according to a study by Sport Tourism Canada (STC). After accounting for initial expenditures, the Canadian Football League’s (CFL) championship contest generated a net economic impact (GDP) of $41.9 million, including $35.4 million for the province of Ontario and $29.2 million for the City of Hamilton.
The total reported attendance over the six-day festival and at the championship game was 223,216. The 33,835 out-of-town guests who visited the region averaged 3.4 days in the host city and generated approximately $20.8 million in visitor spending. Click here for the complete report.
The 110th Grey Cup Game and 2023 Grey Cup Festival are recent recipients of Sport Tourism Canada’s PRESTIGE Award for Canadian Event of the Year with a budget greater than $1 million.
