Human Resources Special Panel Discussion – Women in the Workplace

The Hamilton Chamber of Commerce Human Resources Committee is hosting its annual discussion panel each to address issues that are of concern to its membership. This year the committee is proud to host a panel of five prolific women from the Hamilton-Burlington Bay Area who will discuss what businesses are doing to create positive work environments and growth opportunities for women in the Bay Area.  They will also answer questions on a range of topics including how women can break into male-dominated fields, changes to legislation that affect women in the workplace, existing wage differences, and personal accounts of breaking through the glass ceiling.

The event is latest in a series of initiatives by the Chamber. In 2014, the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce, in collaboration with YWCA Hamilton and McMaster University, launched The Women & Diversity EXCLerator Project.  The first of its kind to present a comprehensive overview of women’s representation in senior leadership positions in Hamilton and Halton’s most prominent organizations, this report analyzes women in leadership across nine sectors, and provides an essential first benchmark against which future progress may be measured.

Within the context of events such as Success in the City (2007-2016), Women’s Leadership Summit (2012-2016), and Women in Leadership Networking Events (2015), Hamilton is no stranger to promoting and supporting the inclusion and encouragement of women as entrepreneurs, leaders and change-makers in the business community and this event will serve as a forum for sharing best practices and recommendations for all employers.
