Hamilton Chamber of Commerce & Ontario Chamber of Commerce Network submit feedback on Cap & Trade

· by Huzaifa Saeed

The Government of Ontario recently announced that it is adopting a province-wide cap and trade system as part of its strategy to reduce Ontario’s impact on climate change.

In response, the Ontario Chamber Network has provided government with a written submission outlining the principles that the Ontario government should incorporate into the design of the system to mitigate the impact to the business community. Hamilton Chamber of Commerce was one of the 30 chambers of commerce and boards of trade signed on to the submission.

In summary, the Ontario Chamber of Commerce (OCC) supports efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to mitigate the impact of climate change on the environment and the economy. However, the OCC is concerned about the implementation of a cap and trade system in the context of a growing regulatory and cost burden facing businesses in the province.
