Hamilton Chamber of Commerce & Morriston Bypass coalition submits letter to Premier.

· by Huzaifa Saeed

Monday, February 1st, 2016, Hamilton, ON: The Hamilton Chamber of Commerce was a signatory to a pre-budget letter submitted today to Premier of Ontario, Kathleen Wynne and members of her cabinet. The letter is part of an ongoing advocacy process to secure government funding (provincial, federal or a combination of) to construct a bypass near the village of Morriston on highway six. The narrowing of the highway near Morriston creates a major bottleneck and public safety issue for the important transportation and trade corridor, impeding the movement of people and goods between Wellington County, Hamilton, Guelph, GTA and the United States. According to research estimates, by 2031, with the implementation of a bypass, the annual value of commuter and commercial time saved during peak periods is valued at over $30 million.

A coalition of regional businesses, chambers and municipalities have been actively advocating for the funding of this project with provincial and federal officials.

Here are the current members of the coalition: The Morriston Bypass Coalition

You can find the full letter: Morriston Bypass Highway Infrastructure Project February 1- 2016

Our chamber will continue to work alongside our membership, the coalition and local elected officials to ensure our region gets funding for the project in the near future.
